Chen Li University of Cambridge BA Hons Computer Science SunGard Financial Systems, AvantGard (London; UK) My Role My position as a consultant is a bit different from other graduates. Within six months of joining, I started travelling abroad to visit clients and working on treasury projects. Most of my work involves designing/configuring financial risk reports, alongside providing training to clients. Additionally if there is no travelling plan assigned to me, I spend quite a lot of time at the support desk helping with issues raised by clients. What exciting projects have you been involved in? Risk management is an exciting part of treasury and it has given me an in-depth view of how treasury works in different businesses. I am involved in many projects and all of them provide me with great opportunities to learn. Travelling to client sites is not only work for me, but also a great chance to learn about new cultures. A typical day at SunGard As my role includes client work I tend to have two types of typical days. On client site: Days usually start with an update meeting with the client, planning the schedule for example training/consulting/designing etc. Working on client sites is actually all about meeting the requirements of the clients efficiently and accurately, whilst building strong relationships with them. It sometimes involves long days, but it’s never been a problem for a graduate to learn and work at the same time, has it? In head office: If I work in the head office I usually work a typcial 9-to-6 day. I always start by putting together a rough agenda for the day. I often spend time resolving project issues and additionally, I take on a great deal of self-learning in other SunGard treasury systems. Why SunGard? In such a dynamic environment, everyone in the office is so friendly and supportive. There is so much to learn for graduates and I am always supported with the challenges faced by my team. Due to the nature of my job, I need consolidated knowledge on both financial markets and IT. My manager is supportive, encouraging and always willing to pass on knowledge to help pave my future career path. Back to Employees |
