Commentary
With the final implementation of Basel II in Europe, attention will turn to risk technology issues that have been neglected due to lack of resources. A key example will be strengthening the infrastructure to allow the risk function to keep pace with the continued innovations in the front-office. Grid computing will become increasingly central to the task of keeping up with growth in volumes and complexity. While ideal for many risk management purposes, considerable restructuring of code will be required to obtain the full benefit of this technology.
