Police Mobile Working
Supporting Front Line Policing - The Business Need for Mobilisation
Increased public attention on the threat of terrorism, serious and new kinds of technology-based crime mean that police forces constantly have to adapt and respond. Demands on the police continue to change and to increase and Central Government is keen to ensure that not only do crime levels fall while detection rates increase, but also that the public perception of safety is improved
Chief Inspector of Constabulary Sir Ronnie Flanagan has recommended the introduction of mobile data technology to provide officers on patrol with more information stating:
"Freeing up police time to devote to the frontline and to neighbourhood policing will make a real difference to every community."
The NPIA Mobile Information Project Board, through a series of technology-based trials, has identified the need to increase efficiency and effectiveness in 'front line' policing and is seeking a sustainable 'business change' led approach to the implementation of mobile information across the Police Service to support the transformation of services that are delivered to the public. The main objectives for all forces are to reduce the amount of time a police officer spends at the station, thus increasing efficiency, effectiveness and improving visibility.
