David Chapman is managing partner of SunGard Consulting Services, based in NYC. Mr. Chapman has worked in and around Wall Street for over 15 years and has an extensive background in the development of financial systems for capital markets and was formerly the CTO of a financial services IT firm.
David Chapman is a recognized expert in using the agile software development approach for building custom front-office trading and risk management solutions for a variety of financial services customers ranging from hedge funds to global investment banks. His extensive technology background includes the architecture, design and implementation of complex, enterprise-wide systems. Mr. Chapman comes from a C++, .Net and Java programming background and has specialized in object technology for the past 20 years.
Commentary
Wall Street firms invest significant resources in IT development and implementation and require on-time and on-budget software delivery. The prevailing development methodology is one key obstacle to achieving rapid delivery because it leaves coding, integration and testing for last. Our experience supports the use of an improved approach called “Agile” which represents an iterative, collaborative and disciplined way to deliver prioritized business functionality early by making sure that the most important features of a system go into production first.
