David Zdechlik, CPA, is the senior product design analyst for SunGard’s insurance business. He is responsible for the design and evolution of the investment products with regard to the accounting and regulatory requirements of the insurance industry. He joined SunGard in 2007. Mr. Zdechlik’s accounting experience spans over 20 years, including eight years in the audit and taxation areas of public accounting at Deloitte and KPMG specializing in the insurance industry and healthcare industry.
Mr. Zdechlik is an expert in regulatory changes in the insurance industry, including the rules and regulations from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). He is a current member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Mr. Zdechlik regularly presents sessions on accounting and regulatory issues at various insurance industry conferences and blogs regarding IFRS.
Commentary
Because of the financial crisis and the current economic concerns on the minds of the general public, regulatory organizations continue to change rules within the insurance regulatory environment. Insurance companies must keep a constant watch on the numerous new rules in accounting and reporting coming from state, federal and global regulatory bodies. Reporting transparency continues to be paramount and is essential in today’s reporting atmosphere. Insurers must be able to rely on their vendors to provide solutions that incorporate all of these regulatory, compliance and reporting requirements.
