Dennis Lebar, CPA, is the senior regulatory and accounting specialist for SunGard’s insurance business. A member of the SunGard development team since 1986, Mr. Lebar is instrumental in the development and deployment of several investment/accounting products for iWorks Financials. He provides accounting and regulatory expertise to ensure that SunGard’s insurance products and services remain regulatory compliant and develops regulatory documents to help customers understand the current and upcoming regulations.
Mr. Lebar is known throughout the industry as an expert in the regulatory and accounting space. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioner (NAIC) and has been involved in several “interested persons” groups providing feedback to the various committees of the NAIC. Mr. Lebar is also an active member of North American Securities Valuation Association (NASVA) and participates in educational seminars sponsored by the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (IASA). He holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Colorado.
Commentary
The insurance regulatory world is rapidly evolving. With health care reform, the current economic environment, the movement toward international accounting standards and regulation, and many other occurrences, the regulation of insurance companies is certain to undergo dramatic changes over the next few years. Insurance professionals are seeking not only systems that can meet these ever changing requirements, but also knowledgeable resources who can keep them informed and up to date on all that is occurring in the regulatory arena.
