Don Norbeck is director of product development for SunGard Availability Services. Over the last year, he has developed SunGard's suite of messaging and collaboration services and is currently responsible for setting SunGard's strategy for virtualization, grid and on-demand computing as well as setting SunGard's information availability product roadmap.

He leads SunGard Availability Services’ innovation and new product initiatives aimed at helping customers meet their system and operational resilience and continuity objectives. In addition, Mr. Norbeck helps SunGard Availability Services set its future sustainability strategies by continually searching for emerging technologies, market trends and business opportunities.
Commentary
Virtualization has great promise in enterprise IT as it is truly changing the way the industry approaches data center infrastructure design. But, virtualization alone is not enough to abandon information availability strategies. Organizations are under increasing pressure to respond and recover more quickly from the exceptional incident and the everyday hardware failure, leading to an even greater reliance on traditional information availability practices. Companies need to combine virtualization and automation technologies with IT and end-user recovery services, high availability solutions and managed services to help meet aggressive recovery time and point objectives, and mitigate risks quickly and cost-effectively.
