Hans Cobben is vice president of global payments and messaging solutions in SunGard’s banks and corporations business. He is responsible for the strategic direction and management of these solutions, and for partnerships, acquisitions and business development. Mr. Cobben joined SunGard in 2006, after the acquisition of Trax, where he was chief executive officer. Prior to Trax, he was chief executive officer of The E-Corporation, an Internet services subsidiary of Alcatel Belgium.
Context
Hans Cobben has more than 15 years of experience in payments and messaging technology, and has led the development of payments solutions for a number of top tier banks and corporations across Europe. He is a recognized commentator on industry challenges such as the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and Sarbanes-Oxley, and an expert on SWIFTNet connectivity for both banks and corporations. He believes that the need to optimize payment flows and foster connectivity has now reached a critical point.
Commentary
Many corporations manage payables processes, payments and banking relationships at the subsidiary or business unit level, which can result in increased transaction costs, poor visibility, higher cost of ownership and lack of standardization. Organizations are looking to realize company-wide centralization of payment processing connectivity with local subsidiaries. This will allow payment capture and processing, account statement retrieval and reconciliation within a single centralized view of payment flows. Organizations are also looking for solutions that deliver a single, secure, standardized communications infrastructure for integration, security and audit compliance, and advanced payments processing. They require a system that provides the back-end infrastructure and interfaces necessary to participate in the SWIFT network.
