Competition in mature markets is driving global securities servicing firms to find ways to differentiate themselves at an unprecedented pace. Differentiation can now be achieved in a number of ways from ultra-competitive cost to fully automated processing to ad-hoc instant added-value client services deliveries. The expectation from clients for a combination of these benefits challenges securities servicing IT systems providers to provide more complexity in a more commoditized way.
At the same time, emerging markets which have not yet reached critical mass or are still benefitting from “flexible” regulations are trying to align with different international standards or organizations without dealing with the full requirement. Hence, they are able to continue serving hybrid clients and products with all-in-one systems creating many different asset management and investment accounting requirements depending on the region’s history or business practice. Once again, this leads to an IT provider’s ultimate dilemma - best-of breed or integrated solutions?
