Neil Palmer is a partner with SunGard Global Services, responsible for Advanced Technology Services. He helps financial services, media and online businesses take advantage of the latest trends in technology. Mr. Palmer has worked in technology for over 20 years and has an extensive background in the development of numerous complex systems across multiple domains, using a wide range of technologies.
Prior to joining SunGard Global Services, Mr. Palmer spent 10 years in management positions for several start-up organizations.
As the gap between consumer world and the financial services industry continues to narrow, B2C-led innovations such as mobile applications, social graphs and big data are increasingly playing a major role in promoting transparency, efficiency and networks. The ability to rapidly analyze ever-increasing amounts of data (big data); provide the results of that analysis via a real time, actionable, application (mobile); and place and distribute that information via context appropriate networks (social graphs) can give firms a competitive advantage in understanding what is happening internally and externally with their clients.
Couple these newer technologies with the ever-increasing pace of innovation, and firms must closely look at how they manage and deliver new solutions both internally and externally. Time to market becomes a critical competitive advantage, and new ideas, such as DevOps, that extend agile principles into the operational aspects of an organization will be vital in identifying and validating new business opportunities.
