Commentary
Investors and trading firms looking for opportunities should consider emerging markets. For example, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina have all come a long way in improving their infrastructures and thus their links—both electronically and culturally—to the global investment community.
The emerging markets of central and eastern Europe (CEE) also present interesting possibilities. This region is driven by the ambitious plans of local exchanges, including the Warsaw Stock Exchange in Poland, the newly‐unified MICEX/RTS group in Russia, and the Central and Eastern Europe Stock Exchange Group, which consists of bourses in Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Ljubljana. Other stock exchanges in the region, especially in southeastern Europe, should consider how to best serve their local economies and how to benefit from the momentum created by the initiatives underway in the wider CEE region.
