SunGard OSSI Crime Analysis Plus Helps Identify High Crime Areas, Eliminate Hours of Research
March 20, 2007 — Lake Mary, FL
SunGard HTE (http://www.sungard.com/hte) today announced the availability of Crime Analysis Plus, a stand-alone application within its OSSI Public Safety Software Solutions Suite. This new application helps crime analysts to perform predictive future-crime analysis, identify high crime areas, and pin-map events, while helping eliminate hours of research and mapping.
Designed to download, view, and analyze incidents from OSSI CAD and RMS, Crime Analysis Plus features easy-to-use navigation, analysis tools, a pattern librarian, and a time slice function. Featuring step-by-step instructions, design tools help users select OSSI RMS or CAD fields for viewing or displaying. For example, show all accidents, traffic stops, and selective traffic enforcement incidents for a particular zone. Once the data is retrieved, events are transformed into real-time information that can be used to create forecasts and make decisions. The information can be displayed using tools such as hotspot and color gradient analysis.
“Crime Analysis Plus is an excellent tool for live COMSTAT-style briefings,” said Steve Lindsay, director customer relations, SunGard’s Geographic Solution Center. “It not only provides information about crimes in particular zones but data on officer response times, officer on-scene time, and the time citizens wait for service. It can help eliminate extensive preparation work that is often required to answer projected questions prior to a COMSTAT briefing. Users can also set up automatic e-mail notifications for a specific crime during a set time; for example, notify a detective when more than two burglaries occur during a twenty-four hour period within a specific patrol zone. Crime Analysis Plus not only helps agencies mine data, it extracts information automatically, which helps eliminate hours of manual research and mapping methods. It is a genuine time-saver.”
The pattern librarian enables users to build and save crime series that can then be displayed via easily-understood icons on a city map. Since crime series reports are another common request, users can migrate data from the software and into Microsoft® Word. The time slice function displays crime data based on the date or time in which the incidents occurred; for example, one can display all burglaries for the last week. This function provides a visual representation of crime patterns, and helps determine directed patrol times.
