Twelve-City Consortium of Police Agencies Based in Southgate, MI Selects SunGard’s OSSI Public Safety Software

SunGard HTE (www.sungard.com/hte), a leading international provider of government information technologies, today announced that a consortium of twelve public safety agencies consolidated in Southgate, MI, has signed a contract to implement the company’s OSSI Public Safety Suite of software. The suite provides a fully integrated system that affords each agency real-time access to shared information, helping to improve response times, reduce costs, and increase officer safety. In total, the consortium comprises nearly 1,800 sworn officers, covering 830 square miles and a population of nearly three million citizens.
“Recently a Southgate police officer sent a BOL (be on the lookout) broadcast with the name and photo of a CSC (criminal sexual conduct) suspect over the SunGard HTE software,” said patrolman Scott Hayes, a Southgate police officer and architect of the consortium strategy. “We had just taken one of the cities in the consortium, Wyandotte, live with mobiles, and within a few minutes of the broadcast, the suspect rode by a Wyandotte officer. The officer recognized the suspect’s face from the mobile photo, stopped the suspect, and positively identified and arrested him.”
“Besides bringing communities together, the consortium is an extremely cost-effective and efficient way to fight crime, share data, and increase officer safety,” said Hayes.
The police agencies in the consortium include Allen Park, Melvindale, Southgate, Ecorse, Redford Township, Sumpter, Huron, River Rouge, Lincoln Park, Romulus, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, all of them connecting to each other via the OSSI system installed at the Southgate Police Department. The OSSI Public Safety Suite of software includes Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS), Jail Management System (JMS), Mobile Computing Technology (MCT), and Mobile Field Reporting (MFR).
