Pan-Wales Performance Management System FFYNNON Powered by SunGard Aspiren Goes ‘Live’
November 5, 2007 — London, UK
SunGard Aspiren today announced that a new pan-Wales performance management solution, developed in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government, local government in Wales and SunGard Aspiren, has gone live. Known as Ffynnon, the new system joins up performance management across public bodies in Wales. This marks Wales as one of the first countries worldwide to implement a single software solution to address issues of performance improvement and risk identification.
Ffynnon has been rolled out to 30 stakeholder sites in Wales. These sites include all Local Authorities, National Parks, Fire and Rescue Services, the Assembly Government and the Local Government Data Unit - Wales, all of which have the software with the aim to improve performance across local and central government.
The Ffynnon project is managed by the Welsh Assembly Government via the Local Government Data Unit. The project resulted from Welsh Local Authorities seeking a system that would help drive forward a performance culture by moving the focus from the collection and presentation of performance data to the analysis and use of that data as business intelligence.
“The key to any new pan-Wales performance management system was to allow data to be shared across and between organizations while being flexible enough to meet the unique individual requirements of each of our stakeholders,” said a spokesperson for the Assembly Government. “Ffynnon delivers this. Each stakeholder has been given the flexibility to meet their local requirements while facilitating collaboration and sharing of data for the benefit of all.”
Chris Knighton, president of SunGard’s Aspiren business unit, said, “Our software applications are helping to remove the barriers to service delivery and help to provide accurate, up-to-date information which is crucial for any government to make informed, successful decisions. We are committed to working with the Welsh Assembly Government now and in the future, sharing the risks and costs in order to improve the data and benefits of a forward-thinking, and performance-enhanced government such as Wales.”
The Assembly Government is committed to improving performance both within government organisations and in front-line service delivery across the public sector in Wales. Their initiatives range from financial and efficiency savings by way of collaborative purchasing that allows for benefit from economies of scale to analysing performance information for business intelligence.
