SunGard Launches Analytics Module for Insurance Incentive Compensation Built on Microsoft’s Business Intelligence Platform

May 18, 2009 — Orlando, FL

At the 2009 ACORD LOMA Conference today, SunGard launched a new analytics module for its iWorks EIM incentive compensation, sales and distribution solution, based on Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) platform.

Sales and distribution analytics is a top priority as insurers look to increase business effectiveness and drive revenue through the identification, management and optimization of channel producer performance. iWorks EIM Analytics provides configurable key performance indicators (KPIs) and interactive business intelligence dashboards to help insurers manage their distribution channels, understand market dynamics and quickly adapt business tactics accordingly.

The Microsoft BI platform includes Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for group and organization-wide business intelligence, Microsoft Office Excel and other Office applications for individual business intelligence.  Microsoft SQL Server provides the data management and analysis platform.  The new analytics module provides comprehensive analytic capabilities across the enterprise at competitive price and performance points.

Craig Weber, senior vice president insurance for Celent, a research and consulting firm, said, "Sales and distribution analytics are a top priority as insurers look to increase effectiveness and drive revenue through the identification, management and optimization of channel producer performance.”

Susan Hauser, worldwide vice president of financial services at Microsoft, said, “SunGard building on our business intelligence platform for its insurance solutions provides a signature example of our efforts to help spread business intelligence further in the enterprise.  Our BI approach is comprised of familiar, widely used tools, such as SharePoint Server and Microsoft Office Excel. This helps more employees have access to meaningful business intelligence.  The greater the access to information, the better a company’s ability to anticipate change and pursue new opportunities.”

Greg Webber, president of SunGard’s insurance business, said, “SunGard’s iWorks EIM Analytics helps insurance companies configure and monitor their key performance indicators with dashboards to monitor and analyze their data  and adjust compensation models accordingly.  Using Microsoft’s Business Intelligence platform provides insurers with effective, easy-to-deploy BI systems in incentive and compensation management.  This helps insurance companies make better business decisions and, as a result, helps reduce costs and remain competitive.”

SunGard and Microsoft have also recently released a high-performance computing (HPC) enabled modeling environment for actuaries in SunGard’s iWorks Prophet Enterprise.  SunGard’s iWorks Prophet Enterprise has been built on the Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 and provides insurance professionals with modeling tools to help them accurately forecast, plan and mitigate insurance risks.

iWorks EIM Analytics and iWorks Prophet Enterprise are part of SunGard’s iWorks suite of solutions. They are also key solutions within Microsoft’s Insurance Value Chain (IVC).  The IVC is a growing ecosystem of insurance partners that address key solution areas across the industry — from point-of-sale and service to policy administration and claims processing — by utilizing Microsoft’s core strengths in front- and back-office technologies.  The IVC program has grown from a handful of insurance application partners to more than 70 insurance solution and service providers, with the common goal of providing innovative, straight-through processing for insurance on the Microsoft platform using Web services, Extensible Markup Language (XML) and industry-specific standards.
