SunGard Launches Capital Management and Liquidity Risk Management Solutions in China

May 27, 2010 — China

SunGard has launched its Ambit Capital Management and Ambit Liquidity Risk Management solutions in China. China Everbright Bank (CEB), Shenzhen Development Bank (SDB) and Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank (SRCB) are using SunGard’s Ambit to help meet increasingly complex international regulatory compliance requirements, and minimize the cost of, and exposure to, risk.

As China’s banking industry evolves, many banks are focusing more carefully on their ability to identify, measure, mitigate and control risks – particularly operational and market risk.  In addition, the entrance of foreign banks to China, and the government’s encouragement of domestic banks to expand internationally, has driven a need for improved management of capital and liquidity risk.  This is exacerbated by the adoption of new international regulatory systems, such as Basel II.  The launch of the Ambit Capital Management and Ambit Liquidity Risk Management solutions aims to help banks meet these new risk management challenges.

Andreas Hug, managing director of SunGard’s Ambit Risk & Performance Management business unit, said, “To remain competitive, banks now need to deploy a capital management and liquidity risk management strategy that both meets market demands and is able to comply with industry regulations focused on more rigorous stress testing and increased transparency.  As banks in China move towards becoming part of the global market, SunGard’s Ambit Capital Management and Ambit Liquidity Risk Management solutions can help them achieve international compliance and provide the required risk controls while at the same time helping them increase operational efficiency and profitability in their core business functions.”

SunGard’s Ambit Capital Management solution provides out of the box compliance and reporting for local and international rules, with an integrated user interface for stress testing against several industry-standard economic capital models.  The solution helps a bank ensure that it is compliant with regulatory requirements, is able to set appropriate bank limits and can develop the most effective risk mitigation strategies.  SunGard's Ambit Liquidity Risk Management solution provides financial institutions with a consistent and efficient approach to ongoing regulatory change in liquidity risk management.  With Ambit Liquidity Risk Management solution, a bank can simulate the influence of test scenarios on the balance sheet, and therefore focus on more than just legal and regulatory compliance requirements.
