Delaware Department of Education Selects SunGard for P-20 Data Sharing Solution
December 2, 2010 — Bethlehem and Malvern, PA
SunGard Public Sector and SunGard Higher Education today announced a joint engagement to deliver a centralized portal to the Delaware Department of Education that will help enable electronic student transcript data exchange between P-12 institutions throughout the state and Delaware higher education institutions served by SunGard. The solution will be fully integrated with SunGard’s student information system eSchoolPLUS, which is currently in use at school districts statewide, and will allow parents and students to view the status of the data exchange via the system’s Home Access Center module. In addition, both sending and receiving institutions in the data exchange registry will have access to status alerts at every step of the process.
“This project will provide a cost-effective solution to share electronic data between P-12 school districts in Delaware and any higher education institutions in Delaware using SunGard Higher Education’s Banner Digital Campus,” said Frank Lavelle, president of SunGard Public Sector's K-12 education business unit. “We are pleased to support P-20 initiatives in Delaware and in other states that are interested in taking advantage of data-sharing opportunities that help benefit students.”
Delaware’s commitment to statewide P-20 data sharing standards was a key element in its successful “Race to the Top” grant application. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the program is designed to reward a handful of states that submitted bold, comprehensive plans for reforming their state education systems and demonstrated the capacity to carry out those plans. Delaware will receive a total of $100 million in grant funding over the next four years.
The project continues the relationship that the Delaware Department of Education and SunGard Public Sector began in 1999. In addition to Delaware’s statewide deployment of eSchoolPLUS, the Delaware Department of Education has deployed SunGard Public Sector’s special education management system, IEPPLUS, in districts throughout the state.
