SunGard’s Robert Richter Named President-Elect of ASPPA

November 4, 2010 — SunGard’s Robert Richter Named President-Elect of ASPPA

Robert Richter, vice president, benefit administration for SunGard’s wealth management business, has been named president-elect of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). His one-year term as president of ASPPA will begin in October 2011. As president-elect, Mr. Richter will work closely with ASPPA's president and executive director to address staff, volunteer, member and inter-professional issues that require leadership review, input, or resolution. Prior to being named president-elect, Mr. Richter was senior vice president of ASPPA and served as co-chair of ASPPA's Government Affairs Committee.

Mr. Richter is a recognized expert in the industry through his active involvement in legislation, which has helped SunGard remain at the forefront of compliance and industry trends. He has ongoing contact with both legislators and regulators on issues affecting retirement plans, and has testified at hearings for both the IRS and Department of Labor (DOL), as well as met with members of Congress. At SunGard, Mr. Richter is responsible for assisting employee benefit professionals in the drafting and support of qualified retirement plans as well as managing a team of consultants. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Richter is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and is also a member of other organizations, including the Florida Bar, the National Institute of Pension Administrators and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He received his Juris Doctor from Florida State University and his Masters of Laws in taxation from the University of Florida.

“The laws affecting retirement plans continually change with a steady, increased focus on fiduciary responsibilities such as fee disclosure to both plan sponsor and participants,” said Mr. Richter. “This will result in significant challenges and opportunities for service providers, and ASPPA and SunGard are well positioned to help ensure that providers are both represented in the regulatory process and prepared to adapt to these changes."
